May be durable and not plastic, but…
I was excited to find these, as I was looking for non-plastic jumpropes that were inexpensive. Was really hoping that the negative reviews were exaggerated. Alas, they were not. I gave these three stars because they are not plastic (wood handles, cotton rope), are lightweight and look like they are durable. However, on the bad side…Very strong chemical smell:If you are scent-sensitive, beware! These have a VERY strong chemical smell. I had a massive headache within minutes of opening the box and taking a few out of their plastic wrappers. The darker the color of dye on the ropes, the stronger the smell. The mostly red and mostly dark green ones were the worst. I was hoping the smell would dissipate after airing them out in my garage for awhile, but after several weeks there is no noticable improvement. Just having one sit on my desk as I write this review, the smell is giving me a headache!Not adjustable:The way they are made, they should be adjustable. However, the holes bored through the handles are not big enough in diameter to allow the knotted rope to be pushed through. Also, many have wood burrs inside that prevent the rope from sliding at all (see picture, handle on the left). In the jumprope pictured, I couldn’t push the rope through on either side. Of the 40 I purchased, I could only get the knot pushed through on two and on just one side each.I am going to let these hang in my garage and hope the smell goes away by summer, and the children I give these to are going to have to just hold the extra rope in their hands if it is too long for them. Disappointing. In future, I will look for natural materials with no dyes and will pay more for better quality. Will not buy these again.
