Good for swimmers, insanely great for serious distance runners
This is a very good swimsuit. But the most interesting use case for these shorts involves serious distance runners. This garment will uniquely serve runners who are training for marathon distances. I’ve been looking for shorts like these for a very long time.As a garment for swimming, the Arweg swimsuit checks the boxes:* quick drying* stretchy spandex outer layer and a soft inner liner* Two open pockets and one pocket that zippers securely shutThis review thus far could describe a million competent swimsuits for sale. What caught my eye was an unusual feature in its description: “compression liner.”Many men’s swimsuits have an inner liner. This liner serves two purposes. It provides, um, “support” to your manly bits, the same way a woman’s bra provides support. The liner also provides men some measure of modesty, flattening out the bumps and bulges.I’ve run more than 150 marathons. As anyone has run a marathon can tell you, training seriously can get a little monotonous. Marathon runners interested in a fast time will typically be running 50, 60, 70 miles a week during training. Most distance runners develop an intense desire to mix up their workouts a little bit, just to keep things interesting. That’s where this swimsuit comes in.I have long wanted a swimsuit that I could go running in. I used to live about five miles from the Pacific Ocean. I loved the idea of being able to run to the ocean, take a swim, and run back home in a kind of run-swim-run workout.I tried this a few times in a few different ways. My fellow runners know what’s coming: the problem with running in most swimsuits involves the liner. Either it’s a mesh that is scratchy, or the liner has prominent seams that stick out. On a long run, you will slowly and surely be rubbed raw in very sensitive places.You can try to swim in running shorts, but there tend to be a few problems with that:* many running shorts don’t dry quickly* running shorts are not designed for swimming, and will tend to be damaged by it* running shorts are often very thin, and when you get out of the water, you will look nearly naked. That’s either a problem or a feature depending on your personality, but I don’t always want the extra attention from strangers.The Arcweg swimsuit is unique among swimsuits I’ve tried to run in. The compression liner is soft and supportive. There are no seams to stick out and chafe. It dries extremely quickly. Unlike many swimsuits, its 7-inch legs are tapered, and not baggy. It resembles a good running short.As a test, I took this swimsuit out for a ten mile run. It performed wonderfully, and I was comfortable the entire time. I was able to use the zippered pocket to securely hold the case of my Samsung Buds Pro headphones. Though I live in a sunny part of California, it started raining during the course of my run, and I especially appreciated that I was wearing a quick-dry garment that is designed to get wet.I’m looking forward to combined run/swim workouts with this swimsuit: in the ocean, or in a pool. If I run to a nearby gym, of course I’ll need to shower off before jumping into the pool, but this is a garment is designed to get wet.The Arweg swimsuit opens the door to more varied and interesting swim/run workouts with a minimum of planning. It’s unique among workout clothes, and deserves a place in the dresser drawer of serious athletes.

Good shorts!
I’ve been shopping for replacements for my old running shorts that are lined and have zipper pockets. I needed shorts that could accommodate my phone, keys, and wallet when I exercised. These are pretty good, and I’ve had a few excellent runs in them. I bought a XXL (I’m a size 40 waist, 6’6″ tall), and the boxer brief liner is comfortably snug/supportive. The side and rear zipper pockets are crucial. I don’t use the slash pockets when running (can’t have my keys falling out) but they’re nice after a run. The liner pocket is useful, but positioned very high on the thigh– I have to really hike up the short to access it. The outer short material is great, not too thin. I plan on using these for running in 50s-60s temps. My only criticisms: the liner pocket and zipper pockets are all on the same side, which can unbalance your shorts if everything you carry is in these (i.e. pull it down on that side). I would like a zipper pocket on the left side that I could access while still running (I’m right-handed– I pull out my phone with my left hand, tap with my right). I would also make the liner pocket sit lower on the thigh. Those are the only features keeping these from replacing my old running shorts with broken zippers.

Good shorts, bad quality control
Good news/bad news for these shorts:Good news: the fit is great, love the strong material, perfect pockets…but.Bad News: They need quality control. The pair delivered to me we obviously a prior return (no issue with that), BUT the left pocket had a huge hole in it (see image). too much drama to return and have shipped back again. So I will sew myself. meh!that’s why a “4” rating

GREAT QUALITY AND VERY COMFORTABLE
BOUGHT THESE FOR MY HUSBAND FOR VACATION AND SINCE THEN HE USES THEM FOR EVERYTHING. THEY MAKE GREAT WORKOUT SHORTS, RUNNING SHORTS, FISHING SHORTS, TAKING THE DOG FOR A WALK SHORTS, SWIMMP SHORTS, SLEEP SHORTS IF WE ARE AWAY FROM HOME. I THINK HE’D GO TO WORK IN THEM IF HE COULD. HE IS NOW UP TO 5 PAIR. A MUST HAVE SUMMER ITEM.THE STYLE IS COMFORTABLE, THE QUALITY IS WELL MADE, AND THEY RUN TRUE TO SIZE.
